The Afrikaans Language Museum and Monument (ATM), KC 107.7 and TC Events Co will present an outdoor picnic concert on the eve of Freedom Day during which numerous musicians will entertain the guests with a variety of genres. This glorious autumn evening performance will take place on Monday evening, 26 April 2021, in celebration of the country’s first democratic elections on 27 April 1994.
Chelsea Vox, DJ Spartan, DJ Lovell, Jakkal the Bones, Mario Arnolds, RJay & LK as well as SoulSound Band promise to impress visitors on the lush green lawns with a wide choice of music that will embrace jazz, classical and R&B. Gavin Meiring, general manager of KC 107.7 says: “We are very excited to host the inaugural Freedom Concert and looking forward to meeting some of our listeners.”
According to the ATM’s director, Michael Jonas, they want to commemorate not only the liberation of the country, but also the liberation of Afrikaans, with this event. They furthermore want to remind residents and tourists that the beautiful monument is a living institution. “Visitors can take the opportunity to view this unique, symbol-laden sculpture. We encourage guests to explore the area and they also have access to secure parking, a shuttle service, outdoor games, children’s playgrounds as well as a writing exhibition where new Arabic-Afrikaans works are currently on display,” he says.
Those interested will have to buy tickets via Computicket as soon as possible as only 500 will be available at only R100 per adult (free for children under 6). Gates open at 17:30 and the show in the Garden Theatre lasts until 21:30. Guests can bring their own picnic baskets and drinks (no glass). Unfortunately, no gazebo’s, dogs or fires are allowed.
