Rockets to light up the Taalmonument once again
New year celebrated with ever-popular musical group

To light up the summer and new year, the ever-popular R&B/pop group The Rockets will once again ascend the Paarl Mountain to get 2019 off to a merry start. The place? The Taalmonument. The date? Friday, 25 January. Furthermore, their concert is in part in aid of the Let’s Read! literacy project for children, and visitors are asked to bring and donate any children’s books for this purpose.

The productive, SAMA-nominated The Rockets have many a CD under their belts and are old acquaintances on many radio stations. The songs of their Afrikaans album, including ‘Namakwa Daisy’ and ‘Ek is Lief Vir Jou’, are regularly heard and are loved by both young and old. The group has already supported several international artists, and regularly performs in Australia, the Middle East and several African countries. So, one and all are invited to experience these five soothing voices that bring music of the past and the present to harmonious life.

The show commences at 20:00 in the Garden Theatre – a smaller, more intimate brother of the famous Paarl Amphitheatre – on the soft lawn right at the foot of the monument. Visitors are welcome to explore the iconic monument and scenic surroundings via footpaths while the children entertain themselves at the playground. Bring your own drinks (no glass) and picnic baskets, or order one in advance at the delicious Volksmond restaurant on 021 863 2800. Coffee, light refreshments, pizza, wine and beer will also be on sale.

Tickets, which are expected to sell out quickly, are available at Computicket and the Language Monument at R100 for adults R50 for children under 13. Bring a blanket or pillow and warm clothing. Safe parking is available (a shuttle service transports visitors to the gate) and entry is controlled. Unfortunately, no dogs or fires are allowed.
