Language Monument’s mountain alive with the sound of the hills
The ever-popular Die Heuwels Fantasties (translated as ‘Fantastic Hills’) again ascends the Paarl Mountain this year for another sizzling picnic concert at the Language Monument, this time on Saturday, 24 March 2018, in the Garden Theatre. Whether you are a hardened fan or have never experienced the pleasure of their live sounds, this opportunity is definitely not one to pass up. In addition, it is the last concert of this summer season and in aid of the Let’s Read! literacy project for children.
Die Heuwels Fantasties is a ground-breaking Afrikaans alternative pop rock group and considered to be the first successful electronic Afrikaans act. They describe their music as “melodic songs written on acoustic guitar, interpreted with electronic and organic instruments. You can call it pop.” They are revered for their unique music and their energetic live performances, and have gathered a large and wide fan base since their inception in 2008. Die Heuwels Fantasties has played at all the major festivals in South Africa and recorded five full-length albums. They have shared the stage with notable international acts, including Kings of Leon, and toured the Netherlands, Belgium and UK.
The show starts at 20:00 in the Garden Theatre – a smaller sibling of the famous Paarl Amphitheatre – on the soft lawn right at the foot of the monument while the sun’s last soothing rays fade away. Visitors are welcome to explore the scenic surroundings via the footpaths while the children entertain themselves in the playground. Bring your own drinks (no glass) and picnic basket or order one at the enlarged and improved Volksmond Coffee Shop on 021 863 2800. Coffee, light refreshments, wine and beer will also be on sale.
Tickets, which are often sold out, are available at Computicket and the Language Monument at R140 for adults, R130 for students and R70 for children under 13. Bring a blanket or pillow and warm clothes. Safe parking is available and entry is controlled. Unfortunately, no dogs or fires are allowed.
