Recording of unique show available throughout August

For those who missed the Afrikaans Language Museum and Monument’s (ATM)’s recent exclusive festival of flames, fire and nature in honour of Nelson Mandela Day, there is still an opportunity to view the show online at any time in August. A part of the proceeds is in aid of sanitisers for Rondeheuwel Primary, the school in Hermon that was ‘adopted’ by the Taalmonument.

A professional camera crew using amongst others drones digitally immortalised the incredible Psychedelic Theatre’s graceful fire dancers and their various flaming objects during the Picnic on Fire, set against the backdrop of this beautiful monument and surroundings. For 67 minutes, their breathtaking fire show, music and choreography captivated the audience and elicited extremely positive feedback.

According to the ATM director, Michael Jonas, the virtual show is on offer so that people can remain safer whilst being entertained during the challenging Covid-19 times. “At the same time, you will know that part of your financial contribution will make a difference to the children. In addition, it helps these performers that are such a popular attraction at the monument and makes us all feel as though things are a bit more normal,” he says.

“Our recent online webinar, music concert, coronavirus writing competition and Groen Galery exhibit have all been very well received on social media, but starting this spring we would also like to once again host events at the ATM that attract people to the beautiful scenery and outdoors. Of course, we continue our virtual offerings so that the monument and museum reach as many people worldwide as possible.”

Lanél van der Kolff, executive artist and founder of the Psychedelic Theatre, as well as her talented dancers’ daring tricks and storytelling will enrich your sensory stimuli, with the visual representation ranging from fire eating to burning hula hoops that will take you to another level of theatrical experience.
