Popular Afrikaans group Die Heuwels Fantasties returns to the Garden Theatre stage at the Afrikaanse Taalmonument in Paarl on Friday 31 March 2017. Their annual picnic concert, part of a series in aid of the “Let us read!” project for children, sold out every year since its inception in 2014.
Die Heuwels Fantasties (translated as Fantastic Hills) is an Afrikaans alternative pop rock group. This ground-breaking group is considered to be the first successful electronic Afrikaans act. They describe their music as “melodic songs written on acoustic guitar, interpreted with electronic and organic instruments. You can call it pop.” They are revered for their unique music and their energetic live performances and have gathered a large and wide fan base since their inception in 2008. Die Heuwels Fantasties has played at all the major festivals in South Africa and has shared the stage with notable international acts, including Kings of Leon. They have also toured to the Netherlands, Belgium and UK.
The show begins at 19:30 in the Garden Theatre, located on the lawn right at the foot of the monument. The gates open at 17:00. Visitors are welcome to bring their own drinks (no glass) and picnic basket or they can order one (at R250 for two persons or R350 with a basket included) from Volksmond Coffee Shop (tel. 021 863 2800). Volksmond will be open for coffee, beer, wine and light refreshments.
Tickets are pre-sold at Computicket and the Taalmonument, at R140 for adults, R130 for students and R70 for children under 13 year. Chairs are only allowed with prior arrangement and smoking only in designated smoking areas (not on the lawns). Safe parking is available and access is controlled.
