The Rockets Piekniekkonsert Taalmonument 2017 webwerf

It’s a musical lift-off with The Rockets at the Language Monument

The ever-popular R&B/Pop group The Rockets will perform on Saturday 27 January 2018 at the Afrikaans Language Monument in Paarl as part of the Garden Theatre Picnic Series. One and all are invited to experience these five soothing voices that bring music of the past and the present to harmonious life; in addition, the evening is in aid of a children’s literacy project.

The productive, SAMA-nominated The Rockets have many a CD under their belts and are old acquaintances on many radio stations. The songs of their Afrikaans album, including ‘Namakwa Daisy’ and ‘Ek is Lief Vir Jou’, are regularly heard and are loved by both young and old. The group has already supported several international artists, and regularly performs in Australia, the Middle East and several African countries. For more about The Rockets, see www.rockets.co.za.

The show starts at 20:00 in the Garden Theatre – a smaller sibling of the famous Paarl Amphitheatre – on the soft lawn right at the foot of the monument while the sun’s last rays fade away. Visitors are welcome to explore the scenic surroundings via the footpaths while the children entertain themselves in the playground. Bring your own drinks (no glass) and picnic basket or order one at the enlarged and improved Volksmond Coffee Shop on 021 863 2800. Coffee, light refreshments, wine and beer will also be on sale. Tickets are available at Computicket and the Language Monument at R100 for adults, R50 for children under 13. Bring a blanket or pillow and warm clothes. Safe parking is available and entry is controlled. Unfortunately, no dogs or fires are allowed.

These picnic events are held in aid of ‘Let’s Read!’, the Language Museum’s reading project for children, and visitors are encouraged to donate a new or second-hand children’s book.

The next picnic concerts are with Riana Nel (3 February), Elvis Blue (17 February) en Die Heuwels Fantasties (24 March). For further information, call 021 863 0543/4809 or visit www.taalmonument.co.za and www.facebook.com/afrikaanstaalmonument.
