Joshua na die Reën Taalmonument Piekniekkonsert 2018 Klein

Joshua na die Reën celebrates the summer at Taalmonument
Garden Theatre opens her arms for talented must-hear-musician

Soothing, intelligent and flowing from the heart; this is the musical experience that Joshua na die Reën will bring to the Afrikaanse Language Monument on Paarl Mountain on Saturday, 1 December, for the first summer concert of the new season. This highly talented man has not only won numerous prizes, but criss-crosses South Africa to win the hearts of as many possible people with his soulful music. Furthermore, his concert at the monument is in part in aid of the Let’s Read! literacy project for children, and visitors are asked to bring and donate any children’s books for this purpose.

Joshua na die Reën (Jacques de Villiers for his family) has a distinctive velvet voice that is a perfect match for the interesting combination of contemporary sounds and instruments, which has been carefully integrated with each song. The end result is so striking that fans are compelled to repeatedly attend his concerts. For those who have not heard him yet, this opportunity is the perfect chance to understand why he is so popular. He has, besides at Huisgenoot Skouspel, shared the stage with seasoned artists like Elvis Blue, Jak de Priester, Amanda Strydom, Laurika Rauch, Richard van der Westhuizen, Die Heuwels Fantasties and many others. Ghoema Music Awards for ‘Newcomer of the Year’ and ‘Best Contemporary Male Artist’, as well as a Huisgenoot Tempo Award for ‘Best Newcomer’, a Woordfees Award for ‘Best Solo Artist’ and theme songs for various movies, television shows and campaigns, were just the beginning of a successful career that took off very quickly.

The show starts at 20:00 in the Garden Theatre – a smaller, more intimate brother of the famous Paarl Amphitheatre – on the soft lawn right at the foot of the monument while the sun’s last rays take their leave. Visitors are welcome to explore the iconic monument and scenic surroundings via footpaths while the children entertain themselves at the playground. Bring your own drinks (no glass) and picnic baskets, or order one in advance at the delicious Volksmond restaurant on 021 863 2800. Coffee, light refreshments, wine and beer will also be on sale.

Tickets, which are expected to sell out quickly, are available at Computicket and the Language Monument at R140 for adults, R130 for students and R70 for children under 13. Bring a blanket or pillow and warm clothing. Safe parking is available and entry is controlled. Unfortunately, no dogs or fires are allowed.
