The Council and Management of the Afrikaanse Taalmuseum en -monument have noted the unhappiness amongst some regarding the access fee for people who only want to visit the Volksmond Coffee Shop and not the Afrikaanse Taalmonument. We appreciate the remarks and have urgently looked at a solution that will satisfy most.

Therefore, at the Council meeting of 21 June 2019, it was decided to implement a R10 access fee for visitors to Volksmond Coffee Shop with immediate effect. This concession is on condition that coffee shop visitors have booked in advance on 021 863 2800. Prospective visitors should therefore appear on the booking list at the main gate to ensure access. A further concession is that visitors who are in possession of a valid Drakenstein library card will now not only be able to access the Taalmuseum and Taalmonument at R10 per adult from Mondays to Fridays, but also on Saturdays and Sundays. This, as well as the other discount price, are valid from 1 July 2019 to at least 31 March 2020. All access fees are used for the maintenance of the monument and coffee shop’s infrastructure and gardens.

We want to remind visitors, especially Drakenstein residents, of our very affordable annual permits for families (R220 per family of four, R120 per individual) as well as other discounted prices at http://www.taalmuseum.co.za/taalmonument-visitor-information/; in this way one can visit the monument and coffee shop for free every day. We thank everyone for their continued support of this iconic treasure, and look forward to welcoming you.
