Numerous choirs and 5 musical stars to rekindle love for choral music

Thanks to the well-received choir festivals of the last two years, the third Taalmonument Choir Festival will be held on Saturday, 14 March 2020, during which choirs will put their best notes forward as part of the monument’s 45th year celebrations. This time around, five musical stars – Brittany Smith (soprano), Christine Bam (alto), Andile Tshoni (tenor), Simphiwe Mayeki (bass) and Cape Town Opera’s Chorus Maestro Marvin Kernelle – will share the stage to make the event extra special.

“One of the goals of this festival is to promote choral music,” says Bam, co-organiser and vocal coach. “There is no competition or judging linked to this event. It’s a fun event for choirs to sing, enjoy the day and network with other choirs.” The day also offers choirs the opportunity to raise funds through ticket sales, while giving learners, their families and the wider public a chance to share their love of music.

The Taalmonument Choir Festival takes place at the Amphitheatre on Paarl Mountain, and food and beverage stalls will be available. The gates open at 17:00 and the choral music commences at 18:30. Tickets (R120 for adults and R60 for children under 12) can be purchased at Computicket and at the Amphitheatre’s gates. Visitors are requested to bring warm clothes. Unfortunately, no fires, dogs, own food or beverages are allowed. Access is controlled, and sufficient parking is available.
