Do you need help to perfect your written Afrikaans? Come (re)discover some secrets of good Afrikaans language use in the “Kom slyp jou Afrikaans” workshop on Wednesday 29 March at the Afrikaanse Taalmonument in Paarl.
The workshop, by language specialist Tom McLachlan, is aimed at mother tongue speakers or second-language speakers who have an excellent knowledge of Afrikaans and wish to improve their Afrikaans writing skills. It focuses on punctuation marks and the styling of compounds (one or two words; hyphens; capital and small letters). Some regular mistakes will be discussed and attendees will get an opportunity to ask questions about their own language problems. The workshop will be presented in Afrikaans.
The attendance fee is R150 per person. The workshop takes place from 08:30 to 16:00 in the Conference Room in the Visitor Centre at the Taalmonument. It forms part of a series of popular courses and workshops presented annually by the Afrikaanse Taalmuseum en -monument. The series focuses on the development of basic professional skills and includes subjects such as records management, archiving, book repair (introductory and advanced), language tourism, star trails photography and snake awareness and handling. Anyone interested in related subjects are welcome to make suggestions for additional workshops.
