The Afrikaanse Taalmuseum en -monument (ATM) is delighted to announce that we have acquired two words for the Woordeboek van die Afrikaanse Taal (Dictionary of the Afrikaans Language, WAT). By sponsoring the words ‘Taal’ (Language) and ‘Erns’ (Earnest/Seriousness) the ATM aids this unique project. The WAT is a comprehensive synchronic explanatory dictionary that very few of the 7 000 languages on the planet can boast with. The dictionary is comprehensive in that it aims to incorporate the Afrikaans vocabulary to its widest extent (i.e. all varieties of Afrikaans) and in terms of the processing of the lemmas: all the possible meanings or meanings that a word may have in Afrikaans, are reflected in the WAT.
